What teammates actually do
Perplexity has launched personal AI agents it calls teammates, built to handle ongoing work with little supervision. They run inside Perplexity Computer, the company's cloud-based assistant that carries out multi-step tasks. Perplexity says the agents add capabilities for large-scale work that continues over time.
You can give each teammate its own role or task, and they can all work at once. They also coordinate with each other and can manage other teammates to keep tasks moving. As the workload grows, they can bring in more teammates and plan their tasks.
Background work and a sidebar to track it
Teammates run 24/7 in the background and notify you when a decision is needed. Each one gets its own entry in the Computer sidebar, where you can see what it's doing and what it has finished. From those threads you can hand off more work, tell an agent to change direction, or ask for a status update.
Price and where you can use it
Right now the feature is limited to Perplexity Max subscribers, on the web and on iOS. The plan costs $200 a month, or $2,000 a year. That makes it a costly option if you only want to try the agents out.
