Ocarina of Time remake: find Richard at night

Updated

Nintendo Switch 2

Richard has a new hiding spot

In the Ocarina of Time remake, Richard the white dog is no longer where N64 players remember him. The Castle Town Market is no longer a 2D texture seen from an isometric angle, so the layout is more tangled and there are more spots for him to disappear into.

At night, Richard now wanders the alley to the left of the Shooting Gallery. In the original game he sat behind the market stall near the Bazaar after dark. His colour is the quickest way to pick him out from the other dogs.

How to bring him back

Once you find him, interact with Richard and choose “Play”. He then starts following you, and you lead him to his owner to collect the reward.

The guide from VGC · Video Games Chronicle walks through the whole thing for the new version on Nintendo Switch 2.

What you get for the trouble

Handing Richard back earns you a Piece of Heart. You need four of them to build a new Heart Container and extend your life bar, and each Piece is unique, so this one is worth the detour.

If you are still working out the new Castle Town layout, the alley by the Shooting Gallery is the first place to check after dark.
