Bitcoin near $77,000 after the Binance breach selloff

Bitcoin was trading at $77,367 on the morning of Saturday, October 31, according to CryptoSlate. The price came after a selloff tied to the Binance breach.

For anyone holding bitcoin, the question is no longer just where the price sits. The more useful check is whether demand comes back without another build-up in outstanding derivatives positions. That is the frame CryptoSlate puts on the recovery.

Liquidations had already forced positions shut during the shock. A later provider reading still showed selected bitcoin exposure higher in dollar terms.

$1.53 billion liquidated, 84% in longs

Block Scholes, a crypto derivatives data provider, reported $1.53 billion in crypto-wide liquidations over 24 hours in its October 30 note. Of that total, 84% were long positions.

Those numbers cover forced closures across crypto, not bitcoin alone. They also belong to the note's reporting window, not to an October 31 tally.

The same report said open interest on Binance's BTC-USDT perpetual held steady through the initial drop. It then rose 4.5% between 23:00 UTC on October 29 and 04:00 UTC on October 30. That is one contract on one exchange, not a market-wide leverage reset.

Open interest at $28 billion on Coinalyze

Coinalyze's bitcoin open-interest page, captured October 31 at 10:40 UTC, showed $28 billion in aggregate exposure. That was up 3% over its 24-hour comparison.

The coverage combines selected BTC/USD, BTC/USDT and BTC/USDC contracts, expressed in dollar notional value. It is a separate dataset and window from the Binance perpetual reading, and the two cannot be stitched into one continuous measure.

Coinalyze does not give an explicit observation timestamp on the page. It also warns that its chart is not updated in real time.

What open interest does and does not measure

Open interest counts positions still outstanding. Liquidations describe positions forced shut. New positions can open while other traders are being closed out, so a large liquidation total and continued outstanding exposure can coexist.

Every open contract has a long and a short side. The reported 4.5% increase concerns Binance's BTC-USDT perpetual and comes without an absolute starting level or a specified unit of exposure.

Dollar notional adds another distinction. A change in the dollar value of open interest does not separate changes in contract quantities from changes in valuation. It is also neither posted collateral nor the multiple of exposure carried against that collateral.

ETF redemptions and the November 6 jobs report

US spot bitcoin ETFs recorded net redemptions in the completed October 30 session. CryptoSlate notes this offers no readout of continuous weekend demand.

Ahead, the November 6 jobs report could alter financing expectations, according to CryptoSlate. The site's stated case for a recovery is stronger spot buying alongside restrained exposure.

What remains to confirm is whether demand returns without another expansion in outstanding derivatives positions. That is the condition CryptoSlate sets, not a forecast.
