AirPods battery draining fast: charge cycles, dirty contacts, features
Aktualisiert

The 300 to 500 cycle limit
Lithium-ion batteries like the ones inside AirPods usually handle around 300 to 500 charge cycles before noticeable degradation sets in, which works out to roughly two to three years. If your pair is younger than that, the drain may come from something else.
A good first step is to look up Apple's battery-life rating for your exact model. For example, Apple rates AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation at four hours of listening with ANC on and five hours with it off. Compare that number with what you actually get.
Buds left out of the case keep working
If you tend to leave the earbuds sitting outside their case, that habit explains a lot. Each bud keeps drawing power as long as it stays connected to a device or keeps searching for one. Putting them back in the case when you finish listening is the simple fix.
The case itself ages too. Its battery loses a little capacity with every charge cycle, even though the AirPods may still show 100 percent when they come out.

Dust and earwax block the contacts
Before you start flipping toggles in Settings, make sure the buds are actually charging. A little dust or earwax on the small contact points inside the case is enough to stop the circuit from closing, so the earbuds never charge.
A quick check: with both buds in the case and charging, look at each one's level on your iPhone. If the contacts are blocked, the numbers will likely be uneven, like 22 percent on one and 65 percent on the other. A lint-free cloth now and then helps. Don't scrape the contacts with hard objects, because they damage easily.
How Apple says to clean the case
Apple says a cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol is fine for wiping the case. Go very light, keep the liquid away from the charging ports and let everything dry fully before charging again.
The company also suggests a soft-bristled toothbrush dipped in micellar water, especially on the meshes, followed by a rinse with distilled water.
Reset, then turn off what you don't use
A reset is the other option. The steps vary by model, but the start is the same: put the AirPods in the case, then go to Settings > Bluetooth > More Info > Forget This Device. Follow Apple's instructions for your model, then pair them again as if they were new. After that, check the charge time and how long they last.
A full battery isn't the same as a healthy one. 100 percent after 368 cycles isn't 100 percent on the first charge. Turning off ANC in quiet places and disabling Spatial Audio saves some power, though the gain is small.
